Funasako Tokio was born in Kagoshima at september 4th 1944. In 1956 he started to learn Shorin-ryu Karate in Taostu. His teacher at this time was Sensei Tomastu. In 1960 he changed in Tokyo to Urakawa Yoshihiro, for learn Goju-ryu. He did not miss one training-lesson during the next 6 years. This is one of his principles in addition to his hard disziplin. In the May of 1967 his was taken to the official team of Japan by Yamaguchi Gogen. This happened after he had won the Tokyo-championship in the years 1964, 65 and 66.
At May 12th of 1968 he came to Germany (At this time: 3rd Dan). He should work there as a Karate-teacher in a club in Heilbronn. During the next years he continued to teach in different cities of Germany and started to build up Gojo-ryu in Germany.
1995 he passed the exam to the 7th Dan by Yukinori Uegara. Funasako also owns of the 2nd Dan in Kendo.
Funasako Tokio is one of the founder of the "Deutscher
Karate Verband" (DKV).
